World Mosquito Day is observed each year on 20 August to spread awareness about the cause of Malaria and how it can be prevented.
As per WHO, every two minutes, a child dies of this preventable and treatable disease and that each year, more than 200 million new cases of the disease are reported.
Believers Eastern Church dioceses celebrated World Mosquito Day with mosquito net distribution, awareness programs and clean-up drives on 20 August 2019.
In celebration of this day Believers Eastern Church Diocese of Birtamod held mosquito net distribution program in a village.
During the distribution program, the diocesan team shared about World Mosquito day and encouraged the villagers to keep their house and surroundings clean to protect their families from dangerous illnesses caused by world’s deadliest animal, mosquito.
At the end of the program, mosquito nets were distributed to 16 poor villagers. All of them were happy and excited to receive the nets.
At another village in Diocese of Birtamod, a Believers Eastern Church local parish conducted similar program and distributed mosquito nets to 18 villagers.
Berhampore mission diocese held world mosquito day program in a remote village where most of the people are illiterate and living in poverty. They do not have toilets and use open fields to attend nature’s call. Due to poor sanitary conditions, mosquito infestation was a common problem that the villagers faced.
The diocese distributed mosquito nets to ten needy families in this poverty-stricken village.
Mosquito nets were distributed to 34 needy families in Believers Eastern Church Diocese of Bilaspur. Mr. Amit Kumar (Ward Member) was invited as chief guest for the program. He said, “I appreciate Believers Eastern Church for doing this good work for poor people. I am happy to be part of this program”.
In observance of world Mosquito Day Believers Eastern Church Diocese of Kolkata took out a rally. Holding placards and raising slogans, they walked down the streets to raise awareness on the threat of malaria and other mosquito-borne diseases.
An awareness class was organized at another place where the diocesan staff taught people about how we can prevent mosquito breeding and kill mosquito larvae in standing water and thus protect ourselves from diseases caused by mosquitoes. The team also held a clean-up program to reiterate the importance of keeping the surroundings clean.
In Diocese of Lucknow, Believers Easter Church local parishes took initiative to hold awareness programs at slums and remote villages and distributed mosquito nets to around 35 people.
