Sanobharatpur is home to the Kumal ethnic group, a marginalized community in Nepal known for their unique language, culture, and traditions. Historically, the Kumal people were potters and fishermen, but modernization has led to a decline in these traditional occupations. Today, many work in various sectors to earn a living.
Recognizing the hardships endured by the Kumal community, a local Women’s Fellowship team from the Diocese of Kathmandu recently launched a compassionate initiative. Their effort aimed to alleviate the health risks posed by mosquito-borne diseases by distributing mosquito nets to financially struggling families in the village. This support was particularly vital for 50 vulnerable families, most of whom are led by single women.
Each recipient expressed profound gratitude and joy upon receiving this vital protective item. Jay Ram Kumal, one of the beneficiaries, shared his heartfelt appreciation: “I often see the church helping many people in Chitwan district. I am really happy that you come and help poor people like us. May God bless you all.”
Another recipient, Chandrakala Kumal, expressed her gratitude, saying, “Your service is commendable for us because people like us barely receive help from others. You came here without any invitation from us and provided this essential material for us. We can now save ourselves from mosquito bites.”
