The Women’s Fellowship team of St. Thomas Believers Eastern Church in Haryana started a literacy center on 6 May 2023.
A total of about 50 people consisting of 20 women and 30 children participated in the inaugural function. Majority of people, especially women, in this locality are illiterate. The children who attended the program never went to school as their parents could not afford to pay for their schooling.
The chairman of municipal council, Mr. Gulshan Kwatara, the local panchayat ward member, Mr. Vijay Kalsi and other government officials were part of this program. Mr. Kwatra was greatly pleased with the initiative of the church. He said in appreciation, “We’re grateful to you for shining the light of education among the people here. We are always with you.”
The women who were enrolled in the literacy were grateful to the church for opening the literacy center for them. They said, “We could not study due to several reasons in our childhood, but now we’ll make use of this opportunity for our children too.”
Through the adultery literacy program, Believers Eastern Church has helped tens of thousands of women rise above poverty and escape illiteracy.
