The Diocese of Pokhara observed International Widows Day on 23rd June 2014. Altogether 12 widows received a shawl and fruit items on that day.
All of the widows were very happy while receiving the gifts. “Nobody care for widows”, one woman said; “I feel lonely, rejected, and helpless. But these sisters from the church care for us.”
Many people appreciated the of work of Women’s Fellowship among widows. Mrs. Kamala Thapa Pradhan (School Principal) said “We woman think of ourselves as valueless. When a lady loses her husband, she loses all her hope and thinks ‘for whom I should live’? We have to live for ourselves and for our children.”
Women’s Fellowship is a department working under Believers Church to empower women. Through initiatives like vocational training and adult literacy classes they help the women to stand on their own.
