Women’s Fellowship members from the Diocese of Siliguri conducted an awareness program in a leprosy colony on 31st May 2014, World No Tobacco Day. Twenty-two families affected by leprosy live together in this community.
Most of the people in this place had the habit of chewing tobacco and smoking. Women’s Fellowship members talked to those who gathered about the ill effects of tobacco and played an awareness video for them.
Many people got motivated from the program and children came forward and pledged that they would say no to tobacco. They also took the challenge to ask their parents to quit this bad habit.
Many people quit smoking on this World No Tobacco Day through the awareness programs conducted by the church.
