On 8th March 2014, International Women’s Day, Believers Church Bengaluru Diocese conducted the graduation of a six month tailoring course for women. Most of the women in the local community made their living by making beedis (handmade cigarettes). Most of the time their children helped them in their work. Because of the constant exposure to tobacco they were facing health problems.
Considering their situation, Believers Church decided to help them by opening a tailoring class in that area. Through written theory and hands-on learning with sewing machines, the women gained a skill that will help them to safely earn enough for their family.
Mr. Ramanna (local panchayat leader) was the chief guest of the program and distributed certificates to them. He appreciated Believers Church for its work among needy and poor.
All the six women who graduated were very happy and proud of their achievement and are looking forward to a brighter future.
Vocational training is just one of the many ways Believers Church empowers women.
