The Diocese of Agartala observed International Widows Day in a refugee camp on 23rd June 2014. Altogether 63 widows received piglets.
Due to communal riots in Mizoram, these people have been staying in the refugee camp since 1998. All the people in the camp receive four kilograms of rice and five rupees in a week, which is insufficient for them to survive. Most of the people go to the forest in search of plants or vegetables to eat.
Mrs. Debaki Reang (Police Department) was the chief guest of the program and she said, “I appreciate the work of the church among the poor and needy, this initiative for the widows in the refugee camp is really an act of love and care.”
Sis. Drishti, a widow, aged fifty-five, lives alone in the camp. Not only had her husband died, but her only son died due to malaria. While receiving the gift she said, “I have no source of income and can hardly buy clothes to cover my body. I am so thankful to the church for giving me such a gift.”
On this International Widows Day, Believers Church reached thousands of widows.
