On 17th June 2014, Sisters of Compassion from the Diocese of Kolkata conducted a food distribution program among widows. More than 100 widows received food packets on that day.
The food packet distribution program was held on the premises of a railway station and in the nearby villages. While receiving food packets most of the widows cried with joy and expressed their gratitude by saying “God bless you.”
Sis. Rani, a 70 year old widow, was living alone in a house made of bamboo and polythene. She is blind, and there is nobody to help her. When the sisters visited her she was in a pathetic condition. They cleaned her house, bathed her, washed her clothes, and give a food packet. The old lady was touched by the act of love and she said “Now I feel like there is somebody for me to think and care about me.”
Sisters of Compassion are an order of Believers Church that work among suffering and neglected people, including widows, orphans and leprosy patients.
