International Widows Day was honored among widows on 23rd June 2011 at Marimai Kusht Ashram (Leprosy Colony) in the Sirgitti district of Chhattisgarh. The widows who attended the program are leprosy patients from Marimai Kusht Ashram and Ganesh Nagar. These widows go through much pain, sorrow and grief in their daily lives. They have no medicine, proper dress, ointment or bandages to put on their wounds.
On the occasion of International Widows Day, Sisters of Compassion, Believers Church Womens Fellowship members and girls Minor Seminary staff participated and made the program a great success.
Sister Tilotima, the Women’s Fellowship leader of Chhattisgarh, distributed gift packets to each widow. Each packet contained a sari, bathing soap, laundry soap and a packet of Tide washing powder.
Believers Church Bilaspur Diocese is playing a major role in meeting the needs of these widows. Furthermore, the entire leprosy colony is blessed through the ministry of Sisters of Compassion. The sisters visit the homes of leprosy-affected people to cook, sweep, wash clothes, comb hair and cut nails. They are doing a great work among these downtrodden individuals.
