Water Filters Improve Health in West Bengal Village

In 2012, Believers Church Siliguri Diocese distributed free BioSand water filters in a village in West Bengal. A man named Gopal happened to pass by at the time of the distribution program. Seeing the crowd, he came closer to see what was going on.

He watched community members receive water filters one by one.

Gopal wanted a filter too. He regularly suffered with terrible stomach pain and waterborne disease due to drinking iron-contaminated water. Despite regular treatment, the stomach problems continued.

He asked the Believers Church worker leading the distribution to give him a water filter. To Gopal’s surprise, the worker gave him one. “Now I am using this filter regularly,” says Gopal. “And now I have no problems in my stomach.” As a result of drinking pure water from the BioSand filter, Gopal no longer has to go to the doctor.

Gopal is thankful to Believers Church staff for bringing water filters into his village. His community has become one of hundreds benefiting from the church’s safe water project.
