On 7th April 2011 Patna Diocese organized a Public Health Awareness Program for World Health Day. Five hundred people gathered for this program at Rajeev Nagar.
The program was inaugurated by Rt. Rev. M.A. Lalachan. Citing the slogan of World Health Day, the Bishop said, “No action today, no cure tomorrow.” He explained how this is true, not only for one’s physical health but also for emotional wellbeing. He encouraged the audience to get up every morning with a positive thought and thanksgiving to God, drink clean water, exercise, eat healthy food, be content and cheerful, go for an evening walk and serve others.
The Bishop also launched a CD by Dr. Daniel Johnson (Director of Medical Services) which contains comprehensive medical guidelines for health care.
Vitamin A nutritional supplements were distributed to 150 children on this occasion, providing them with the basic nutrients to maintain their eyesight and to fight other preventable illnesses.
Through this program, people learned the value of early detection, prevention and knowledge of basic health care. The event was covered by the local newspaper, Hindustan Patna (Hindi), on Friday, April 8th, 2011.
The diocese has launched an ongoing public health campaign to raise awareness about physical and mental wellbeing in 10,000 villages.
