Believers Church Gorakhpur on 15th December 2012 began a sanitation project in Uttar Pradesh. The event was held in the courtyard of Radha Inter College, Nagra.
Diocesan leaders challenged villagers to stop wasting their money on harmful substances and instead save it for toilets to promote hygiene in their families. BSP leader, Mr. Chattu Ram, supported the project, encouraging community members to get involved. They responded enthusiastically.
“Entire district was struggling for toilets,” said Dainik Jagran newspaper reporter, “and we were amazed to see when people raised their hands to say no to alcohol and tobacco. This was such an encouraging moment for us and a great hope to have a healthy atmosphere in the village. Moreover the people have decided to save money and support the sanitation project financially.”
MLA Uma Shankar Singh lit the traditional lamp to inaugurate the project. He said, “The entire village should be thankful to Believers Church and the leadership who decided to have a sanitation program. Each family should have a toilet in the house.” Addressing church leaders, he said, “We were just thinking on this, but you have taken an action on it.”
In addition to encouraging sanitation, Believers Church gave free blankets to around 270 people who gathered. This program is just one example of the church’s many initiatives to develop needy communities.
