India’s 62nd Republic Day was celebrated luminously in Udaipur Diocese. Minor Seminary staff and students, Bridge of Hope children and staff, and all the staff from the Diocesan office gathered to hoist the national flag on the cold morning of 26th January 2011.
Rev. Fr. Prabhakar, Vicar General of Udaipur Diocese, hoisted the flag with due respect, and the entire congregation sang the national anthem. After, Rev. Fr. Prabhakar spoke about the meaning and importance of Republic Day.
He encouraged the entire congregation to become dedicated and faithful Indian citizens and to join their hands together to eradicate corruption and terrorism from their motherland. Later Rev. Fr. Paul came up and offered prayers for all the leaders and citizens of the country, that they might lead peaceful and blessed lives.
Bridge of Hope students and Believers Church Women’s Fellowship members presented colorful cultural performances for this special event. Toward the end of the program, the Bridge of Hope children received gifts of different items they needed from BOH. Immediately after the flag-hoisting program, the entire congregation divided into four groups to participate in different programs and projects.
The BOH children had painting and coloring competitions in their own centers.
The Minor Seminary staff and students went to clean the surrounding areas of the Gordhan Vilas Police Station.
The Women’s Fellowship group went to visit a children’s home in Kherwara where 80 children from poor and needy families receive care. Their ages range from five to 18.
The Women’s Fellowship team sought to bring joy to the children on the occasion of Republic Day. There were a few competitive games, and the winners received awards at the end. The leaders in charge of the children’s home were thankful for the team arranging such a joyful time for the children.
A team of diocesan staff went to distribute blankets to unprivileged patients in the Udaipur Satellite Hospital. Mrs. Sajan Kattera, MLA of Udaipur, accompanied this team. Thirty blankets were distributed to needy people. Mrs. Sajan Kattera was very happy to see the work of Believers Church. She expressed her gratitude to Metropolitan Dr. K.P. Yohannan and all the Bishops and leaders of Believers Church for caring about people who are underprivileged.
