Believers Church Udaipur Diocese heartily celebrated India’s Independence Day on 15th August 2010. To start off the day, 350 people gathered for a program to honor the nation and remember those who sacrificed to win the country’s independence.
The participants included diocesan office staff as well as students from the local Minor Seminary and two Bridge of Hope centers.
Mr. Raahul Vyas (Director of Kanupriya Information Technology Education Service) was the honourable guest. He hoisted the flag and gave a beautiful speech about freedom for the people of India. He said, “Though we, as Indians, received freedom in the year 1947, still we are living under the slavery of poverty, illiteracy, and corruption. Let us pray that a real freedom will come to our nation.”
Rev. Fr. Prabhakar (Vicar General) later led a time of prayer for India, especially for the people in poverty and in the slums. The Bridge of Hope children and Minor Seminary students presented programs showing their devotion to the nation.
Later, 150 Minor Seminary members went to the community hall in Udaipur to clean. The students and staff gladly took the opportunity to clean the rooms, toilets and surrounding areas. The group worked for about three hours to transform the dirty, foul-smelling premises into a pleasant atmosphere.
Meanwhile, a group of women cleaned the area in the community surrounding the Believers Church diocesan office.
In the evening, a beautiful cultural program was held at the diocesan office. Minor Seminary students and Women’s Fellowship members performed choreography, drama and Rajasthani cultural dances.
It was an patriotic day for Believers Church Udaipur, with much effort put into celebrating their independence. All across India, Believers Church took part in festivities and in various projects to improve their communities.
