On 1st December 2009, Believers Church Himachal Pradesh held three different programs for World AIDS Day to generate awareness among the public.
The day started with a rally comprised of staff, Minor Seminary students and Women’s Fellowship members. Sporting red ribbons and caps, they rallied through the city streets shouting slogans about the deadly disease.
They also carried placards to communicate the awareness message to locals. The marchers distributed educational booklets as they went. Staff and directors from the AIDS Control Society joined in the rally. The Deputy Commissioner appreciated the church’s good work.
Rev. Fr. Biju and Rev. Fr. Jagan spoke to TV media personnel about Believers Church’s attempts to create awareness about AIDS.
In the evening, many men and women gathered for a meeting organized by the state Women’s Fellowship. They saw a skit on AIDS awareness and heard Dr. Maya Ahuja speaking about the issue.
She addressed the importance of understanding the disease and about the need for precautions and early detection. She also answered questions and doubts raised by the crowd.
Church workers showed a film about AIDS as well. Through this presentation, many people in the city and market learned of the disease’s danger.
Believers Church is actively working to educate communities throughout South Asia about social issues such as AIDS.
