The General Synod of the church met at 5 pm this evening at the St. Thomas Cathedral in the Church’s global headquarters in Thiruvalla for their inaugural session after participating in the first Divine Liturgy officiated by His Holiness Moran Mor Samuel Theophilus Metropolitan in the morning.
This is the first meeting of the General Synod since the repose of Metropolitan Athanasius Yohan I of blessed memory. The meeting began with prayers led by HG Titus Mor Osthathiose of Kathmandu and HG Justin Mor Thomas of Dhaka, giving thanks to the Holy Trinity for helping and sustaining the church through the difficult period since Metropolitan Yohan’s repose, and for providing them a worthy successor.
The assembly was then addressed by His Holiness Moran Mor Samuel Theophilus Metropolitan, who in his inaugural discourse, thanked the leaders for selecting him to lead them and encouraged them to remain steadfast in following the Lord’s call to preach the Gospel and build the Church, as Metropolitan Yohan had always bidden them.
HG Daniel Mor Timotheus of North America and Europe then delivered a short homily that reminded the delegates to always trust in the Lord Almighty even when things did not seem to make sense, adding that our confidence always stems from the fact that the Sovereign God is always in control of everything.
The Secretary of the Holy Synod, HG Joshua Mor Barnabas of Kolkata & Jorhat then concluded with instructions on the recruitment of candidates for the seminaries of the Church for the new academic year which could begin next month.
