The General Assembly of Believers Eastern Church Nepal was convened from 23rd to 27th October 2022 at the St. Xavier’s College, Lalitpur district.
HH Moran Mor Athanaius Yohan I Metropolitan was the keynote speaker at the assembly. HG Justin Mor Thomas Episcopa, HG Gee Varghese Mor Makariose Episcopa of Colombo Diocese, Rev. Fr. Dr. Daniel Johnson, Secretary General, and HG Titus Mor Osthathiose Episcopa also spoke at different sessions.
HG Theodor Mor Origen, HG Paulose Mor Onesimus Episcopa, vicar generals of dioceses of Birtamod, Itahari, Pokhara, Kathmandu, Kohalpur and provincial vicar of Sagarmatha mission diocese were also part of this historical event.
Over twelve hundred participants representing the five dioceses, and the mission province of Nepal took part in the conference. Many of the delegates came from remote, mountainous, and backward villages of Nepal, travelling two-four days on foot to be part of this general assembly.
Each day’s program commenced with the celebration of Holy Eucharist in which all the participants took part devotedly and reverently. Likewise, cultural programs were also organized every afternoon in which participants from every diocese demonstrated their talents and skills through various cultural dances.
The five-day assembly ended with the celebration of Divine Liturgy.
Fr. Gyan Bahadur Rai said, “I learned many things from the profound teachings of our Metropolitan. But what struck me the most was when he said, “If you cannot lead your family, you cannot lead your church”. This made think deeply about my life”.
Anita Bomjan, one of the youth volunteers said, “I feel so blessed and elated to be part of this 5-day General Assembly because I had never had the opportunity to serve a large number of people as a volunteer in my life. I felt so happy and blessed to serve many people for 5 days and I thank Believers Eastern Church family for giving this privilege to serve the church”.
