A Believers Church Minor Seminary in Lucknow Diocese hoisted the national flag on the eve of Independence Day, 2009 and then divided students and staff into groups for social work.
The theme of the program was “Clean Lucknow, Green Lucknow”. Though it was raining that day, the teams willingly served the community.
The first group cleaned the PGI police station and fire station and planted saplings. The police and fire station staff heartily appreciated their work.
The next team cleaned a colony called “Sanskrithi”. The local people were very happy and even provided additional cleaning items to the team.
The third group cleaned a public park. The park had been unclean for many months and children were unable to play there. Now the park is clean and kids play happily.
Yet another group planted 15 trees by the wayside. Overall, the social program resulted in cleaner and more pleasant surroundings.
This Lucknow initiative is just one example of the social work done across India. Many Believers Church workers took Independence Day as an opportunity to improve communities and build up the nation.
