On the occasion of International Women’s Day, St. Paul’s Believers Eastern Church in Chandrapur district of Maharashtra took a significant step towards community health by organizing a free health check-up camp. The initiative specifically targeted women and underprivileged individuals in the area, providing much-needed access to healthcare services.
The camp addressed a critical need in the community, as many residents come from marginalized families lacking access to basic healthcare facilities. Children often fall ill, and due to financial constraints, parents struggle to afford proper medical treatment. Regular medical check-ups are a luxury beyond their means, leading to untreated illnesses and health issues. Identifying seven slum settlements in the area with 15% of the population residing in such conditions, the church recognized the urgent need for intervention.
The camp welcomed over 100 participants who benefited from a range of services including blood pressure, diabetes, dental, and eye tests. Free medications were provided, and symptomatic treatment was administered for various complaints.
In his address at the camp, the chief guest Prof. Signa Kamble, President of Divya Deep Social Society, commended the parish’s initiative, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing health, particularly among marginalized communities. He highlighted the significance of physical exercise as a cost-effective means to maintain both physical and mental well-being.
The success of the camp was a testament to the dedication of the church believers, who played a crucial role in its organization and execution. Their commitment to serving the community ensured that individuals received the necessary guidance and support throughout the event.
Several patients were referred for further treatment, signifying the importance of ongoing healthcare access. Participants expressed gratitude to the parish for spearheading such a vital initiative, recognizing the profound impact it had on their lives.
