Social Welfare Programs Held in Honor of Moran Mor Athanasius Yohan I Metropolitan’s Birthday
March 9, 2021In honor of Moran Mor Athanasius Yohan I Metropolitan’s birthday Believers Eastern Church held a wide array of social welfare programs on 8 March 2021. As Metropolitan’s heart is always for the poor and the suffering, the church used this occasion to reach out to the poorest of the poor in the society, bringing them respite, succor and hope.
Here is an account of the activities carried out by the church.
Distribution of Warm Meals
Believers Eastern Church Diocese of Raipur distributed warm meals to 50 fifty children in a slum area to mark the occasion.
Believers Eastern Church Diocese of Chennai provided meals to people at an old age home and among gypsy children and street dwellers.
Believers Eastern Church Diocese of Delhi held food distribution among the poor in a slum area.
Diocese of Amritsar celebrated the occasion with slum dwellers and served them freshly cooked meals.
Diocese of Anand distributed food among slum dwellers.
Fruits and dry food items were distributed among slum dwellers in mission Diocese of Banswara.
Dry Ration Distribution
In Believers Eastern Church diocese of Jorhat, ration kits consisting of atta, dal, sugar, mustard oil and salt were distributed to needy families. The distribution will continue throughout this week and the diocese hopes to help nearly 500 families.
Distribution of Notebooks
In celebration of the day, Diocese of Ranchi gifted Notebooks and school bags to over 30 underprivileged children.
Mission Diocese of Tura celebrated the day by distributing note books to children living in poverty.
Children from economically disadvantaged families were gifted with notebooks in Diocese of Siliguri.
Notebooks were distributed to needy children in Diocese of Mumbai. Mr. Marshal Panhalkar, local Congress leader, was the chief guest at the event. Altogether 54 children received the notebooks.
In Diocese of Jammu, notebooks were distributed to poor and needy children.
Diocese of Lucknow held notebook distribution programs at two places to share the birthday joy with poor children.
Mosquito Net Distribution
Believers Eastern Church Diocese of Tinsukia distributed mosquito nets to needy people to mark the special occasion.
Clean-up Drive
As part of the celebration, Diocese of Siliguri organized a cleanliness drive and cleaned up roads and public places.
Special prayers were held for the good health and long life of Moran Mor Athanasius Yohan I Metropolitan.
Believers Eastern Church organized similar programs throughout all its dioceses to show compassion to the needy, downtrodden and destitute, thus making a difference to the lives of hundreds of people living in poverty.
