People across the world celebrated Global Hand Washing Day on 15th October 2012. Believers Church Women’s Fellowship in Chandigarh Diocese took this day as an opportunity to create awareness about good health in a slum area.
The Women’s Fellowship formed a team to go a slum in Mohali district. Many people living here are uneducated. When the team arrived, the slum-dwellers welcomed them with enthusiasm.
The awareness program began at 11:00 Am. Renu (Women’s Fellowship leader) and Surekha (a pastor’s wife) were the main resource people.
Renu took time to teach the slum women about prevention of communicable diseases through hand washing. She also gave instructions according to the guidelines in the hand washing booklet created by Believers Church.
The team brought Dettol soap with them in order to demonstrate the proper way to wash hands. Overall, the women in the slum were very interested to learn how to protect their lives from germ-related disease.
Other Dioceses also organized events to educate local people about the importance of hygiene in the daily life of a community.
