On World AIDS Day, 1st December 2010, Believers Church Udaipur Diocese arranged a procession to raise awareness about the disease in the local community. Rt. Rev. Dr. Simon John from Delhi was present for the rally and began the program with prayer.
The rally consisted of Bishop Dr. Simon John, Rev. Fr. Prabhakar (Vicar General), other clergymen, Minor Seminary staff and students. They marched through the highway of Udaipur city.
A jeep at the front of the procession announced the rally and shared information about AIDS. In turn, all the participants wore AIDS awareness ribbons on their clothes and shouted slogans such as, “Know AIDS, no AIDS” and “Chase out AIDS and save our nation.”
A pamphlet called Ashahin Ke Liye Asha (Hope for the Hopeless) was released by Bishop Dr. Simon John for the occasion. This literature, produced by the Udaipur Diocese staff, included important information about AIDS. The pamphlets were in great demand and were distributed freely to eager readers passing by.
In the middle of the rally, the procession stopped at three main circle areas of the town to raise awareness about AIDS. It was an eye-opening time for the crowd as they heard Bishop Simon speak.
Similar AIDS awareness rallies took place in Believers Church Dioceses across South Asia. The church is committed educating local communities about key social issues that affect their daily lives.
