“I appreciate the work of Believers Church,” said Mr. Makhan Barman, gram panchayat pradhan. “They have been doing various programs in our society, which is really helpful”. The village leader made this statement during a poverty alleviation program which benefited 391 families in Believers Church Siliguri Diocese.
The colorful program started out with a cultural dance. Chief guest Mr. Arun Das (local high school principal) then raised the national flag. Some community members received gifts to generate income, such as livestock or rickshaw thelas. Others got items that will improve their everyday life, like the wheelchair that went to a handicapped man.
When interviewed about the community development project, Rev. Fr. Raju said, “Our motive of this project is, we want to develop our nation. We want to see a beggar-free India and same time we want to share God’s love to every community. He loves all and He cares for all.”
Believers Church distributes thousands of items each year to alleviate poverty in needy communities.
