Believers Church Sikkim raised awareness about the importance of hygiene on Global Hand Washing Day, 15th October 2012, through its Bridge of Hope Centers.
More than 600 students attended, excluding the community members who gathered with them. They learned how to prevent diseases like diarrhea and cholera by washing with soap before and after meals and after using the toilet.
Special guests reinforced the teaching, speaking from their professional experience. Dr. Pandi Lepcha, Dr. Subash Sittling (Kalimpong government hospital), Dr. Sarita Khaling (Government Hospital Darjeeling) and Mrs. Sabina Rai (ICDS worker) participated in various project centers.
Children saw demonstrations of how to thoroughly wash their hands. They, and some of their parents, even got the chance to try it for themselves. Afterward, children received vitamins to further boost their health.
These programs are typical of Believers Church’s health awareness initiatives. The church has a vision to supply undeveloped communities with education and resources necessary for health and wholesomeness.
