His Excellency Arif Mohammad Khan, the Honorable Governor of Kerala officially inaugurated the new office of Diocese of Trivandrum on 11 November 2019.
Delivering the inaugural address, the Honorable Governor said, “There can be no doubt that throughout history religion has cultivated the feelings of compassion, and kindness and has inspired countless number of people to do selfless service to men which always contributes to nation building”.
Expressing his deep appreciation for the various social service initiatives of Believers Eastern Church he said, “I’m happy to notice that Believers Eastern Church is deeply committed to nation building and serving the deprived and marginalized sections irrespective of their faith, caste, or creed. It is gratifying to know that education and women empowerment form a major component of the programs of the church. The construction of 28,000 toilets in the most underdeveloped areas to bring necessary changes in people’s lifestyle, the provision of self-sustainable tools like sewing machines, carpentry and agricultural tools and fishing nets certainly contribute to the progress of the individuals and society in general. Such empowerment and the provision of medical care to over 10 lakh people by Believers Eastern Church are certainly models worthy of emulation”.
Shri E.P. Jayarajan, Minister of Industries, Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Kerala, Shri P.J. Kurien, Former Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Most. Rev. Dr. Geevarghese Mor Coorilos Metropolitan, President of Kerala Council of Churches, Shri. Ramesh Chennithala, Leader of the opposition, Kerala Legislative Assembly and Rt. Rev. Jospeh Mar Barnabas Episcopa, Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church, Diocese of Trivandrum were present on the occasion and delivered felicitations.
While delivering the presidential address, Moran Mor Athanasius Yohan I Metropolitan said, “We longed for a diocesan office so that we can be of service to the present generation, to this state and to our nation”. “Let us each one do what we can to help the needy and the poor”.
Prior to this, in the morning, the consecration and blessing of the office was held. Moran Mor Athanasius Yohan I Metropolitan dedicated the office in the name of the Triune God. Mathews Mor Silvanus Episcopa, Joshua Mor Barnabas Episcopa and ordained priests of the church were part of the dedication service.
