On 22nd March 2013, Believers Church Uttarakhand celebrated World Water Day in a private school called Ambedkar Shiksa Sadhan. 187 children from poor families study here. The water in their village was yellow and impure and caused sickness. But it was the only water they knew.
So on World Water Day, Believers Church staff taught the children the importance and value of water. To promote health, the church installed a BioSand water filter in the school for free. “We have hand pumps in our village and we thought that hand pump water is pure,” said the students.
“But after seeing the demonstration of the BioSand water filter, we are amazed. Its water taste is sweet” said a student named Amit. “This is good for drinking compared with the water which we get from our hand pumps.”
Their teacher, Mr. Vikram Singh, confirmed the value of the filter. “This is the first time in my life I have seen a filter like this. It is really good for the villagers, especially the poor people who cannot afford expensive filters sold in the market.”
Believers Church gives pure water to thousands through BioSand water filters.
