In the wake of cyclone Phailin, Believers Church Odisha Diocese began relief work in Ganjam and Gajapati districts of Odisha on the 22nd of October.
These two districts were among the hardest hit by the cyclone. These districts are experiencing power cuts and thousands of people have been evacuated to relief camps. Most of the people are farmers who have lost their crops and await a future that is unknown.
Believers Church stepped forward to provide relief materials to those affected by the cyclone and the resultant flood. Relief packets with 10kg rice, 1kg dal, 1kg sugar, 100gms tea leaves, half litre cooking oil, 1 kg salt, 1 bathing soap and 1 washing soap were prepared and distributed. Altogether 1,000 families were benefited with relief packets in these places.
Gobinda said, “In this cyclone I lost my all households things. And now I don’t understand what my life will be. Since 5 days and nights I could not sleep due to the terror of cyclone. I thank Believers Church for ration packet.”
Buli expressed her gratitude towards Believers Church and said, “Since 5 days I didn’t have food to eat. All my things were destroyed in cyclone. Now I got this ration packet and I will cook food and eat.”
Due to constant rain and bad transportation relief work is being hindered but officials say that cleaning operations have begun to clear roads for smooth passage of relief materials.Believers Church will be continuing to distribute relief materials in the coming days.
Believers Church is helping families rebuild their lives after the cyclone Phailin by providing hope and relief materials.
