Severe cyclonic storm ‘Gaja’ hit the state of Tamil Nadu in India on 16 November 2018 which claimed several lives and left a trail of destruction across at least six districts.
While people are still struggling to come in terms with their loss, Believers Eastern Church Diocese of Chennai is reaching out to the victims and doing all it can to aid the affected survive the crisis through helping with basic necessities.
On 25 November 2018 the diocese distributed relief supplies to affected families in Tiruvarur district, one of the badly-hit places where many lost all most everything they owned to the gale winds which also destroyed vast agricultural lands and crops.
A total of 230 families received relief package consisting of dry ration items, clothes and hygiene supplies. The beneficiaries were thankful for the help and thanked the church for extending a helping hand to them.
Sundari, one of the survivors of the cyclone said, “The items you have provided are more than enough for 4 days and we will not need to worry about what to eat”.
