Galoli is a remote village is located in the district of Saharanpur, Uttarakhand. Water from hand pumps in the area is contaminated.
Kuldeep (BioSand water filter leader for Uttarakhand) learned about the condition of water in Galoli and conducted a survey in the village. He tried to drink the water there, but could not due to the bad smell. After tasting the water, he had to spit it out.
He told the villagers about BioSand water filters and then demonstrated how they worked. The people were amazed to see how impure water was made clear after pouring it through the filter.
On 28th March 2012, Believers Church installed eight BioSand water filters in the village free of cost. The entire community is now using the filters gratefully.
Villager Suntu Ram says, “The filter gives pure and clear water, which is good for drinking. I am surprised to see how a filter changes impure water into pure.” His sentiment speaks for the whole village, which now has pure water available each and every day.
