On 18 October 2021, Believers Eastern Church Diocese of Khagrachari in Bangladesh organized a relief distribution program in a remote village to extend a helping hand to poverty-stricken families.
The residents of this village are extremely poor and live under poverty line. Most of the families here live in small huts. They do not have cultivable land and are solely dependent on daily wage labor for survival. They also have no access to basic public services, such as health and education as well as transportation and communication facilities. The Covid-19 pandemic and the resulting economic crisis have only added to their woes.
The relief supply distribution was organized with the help of the local parish priest. A total of 15 neediest families from the village were helped with dry rations during the distribution program. The recipients were happy and they thanked the church for extending help to them.
Basumoti Tripura, 38 years old, is a widow. She lives alone. She is a daily laborer and has to work almost everyday to make ends meet. She expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the church for helping her with rations.
Mallika Tripura, 20 years old, said, “There are very few people who truly love to serve the poor these days. In fact many look down on the poor. I thank Believers Eastern Church for the initiative.”
