Believers Church Kolkata Diocese cleaned a district hospital on 13th August 2009. This pre-Independence Day activity was inspired by the love of God and a spirit of patriotism.
In the morning, the Minor Seminary students and staff marched to the hospital from their campus. The men cut plants and grass, cleaned gutters and threw away old garbage. The women gave away free snacks to about 400 patients and prayed for them.
Onlookers applauded the team’s social work. A political leader present was amazed to see the extent of the cleaning work and told Rev. Fr. Ponnachan, “Even government-appointed sweepers would not do what you are doing.”
The hospital superintendent expressed deep thankfulness. He was glad to see Believers Church making such an effort.
The event was covered by the Kolkata newspaper “Ekdin Bengali Patrika” in an article titled Haspatale Saphai Abhijan (Cleaning March at Hospital).
Believers Church takes each opportunity to help communities through social work. Churches across India served local people on Independence Day.
