Believers Church Patna Diocese began a new initiative to increase sanitation on 15th November 2012.
The project aims to build a healthy environment by providing sanitation facilities and raising basic health awareness in Bihar. The chief guest launching the project was Sri Vijay Prakash (Principal Secretary of Planning and Development, Government of Bihar). He lit a traditional lamp to open the inauguration event.
In his address, Sri Vijay gave health and hygiene tips. He appreciated Believers Church for executing such a key project in rural Bihar. Another prominent leader, Dr. Ashok Kumar (Vice Principal of Govt. Higher Secondary School, Shastri Nagar) also expressed gratitude for the church’s work among the most underprivileged.
Rt. Rev. M.A. Lalachan said that good sanitation is at the core of human dignity and progress. “Access to restrooms ensures dignity and positively impacts health, increases well-being and productivity and reduces the chances of contracting diseases” he explained.
He added “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you,” quoted from the Bible. This phrase, he remarked, describes the church’s uncompromising vision and mission. “We have always been challenged and stirred by the divine call to serve the underprivileged in our society,” he said.
Patna Diocese will initially start the project in 100 villages. This is one of many strides Believers Church has taken toward a healthy, well-informed society.
