Sisters of Compassion in Believers Church Patna Diocese distributed blankets, sandals, food packets and medicine in two leprosy colonies in honor of World Leprosy Day.
In one colony, Bishop M.A. Lalachan shared, “World Leprosy Day helps to facilitate awareness and better care for the needs of some of the poorest and most marginalized people in the world. Those affected with leprosy can be cured and cared for.”
He encouraged the patients, sharing from the Bible about Jesus’ love for lepers. “In Jesus’ day, leprosy was one of the most horrifying and incurable diseases. People who had leprosy were not allowed to come out in public. But Jesus actually touched and embraced the leprous. This was no doubt the first loving, human touch felt by those suffering human beings in many long years. Of the many miracles unique to the Gospel, the healing of the lepers is significant, offering a lesson about God’s care, compassion and love toward them.”
Believers Church cares for leprosy patients on a regular basis through Sisters of Compassion and a leprosy hospital.
