Believers Church Patna Diocese launched a new healthcare project on 6th April 2013. Dr. Akhileshwari Nath (scientist and HOD, Mahaveer Cancer Research Institute) was the chief guest of the occasion. During her inaugural speech, Dr. Akhileshwari appreciated Believers Church for facilitating health awareness and better care for rural and village women.
Bishop M.A. Lalachan then shared the major goals of the new healthcare project—to improve the overall health of women and children through increasing health awareness, and to reduce the infant mortality rate and maternal mortality ratio. He said that in order to build a powerful and developed nation, health is of greater concern than wealth.
The diocese will train volunteers and teachers in 90 different locations of Bihar to identify health problems and refer people for corrective action to health care providers. These volunteers will also prepare community health and hygiene awareness programs in various places.
The healthcare project is targeting 2,000 remote areas that lack basic medical care and awareness. This project is part of a church-wide initiative to raise health and hygiene awareness among two million women.
