Believers Church Kolkata Diocese distributed gifts through a poverty alleviation program on 7th February 2013. More than 100 community members received items such as sewing machines, goats, cows, piglets, tin roofing sheets and bicycles.
The recipients were daily wage laborers, hardly earning 50 rupees a day. They could not afford proper, nutritious food or good education for their children. Their living conditions were pathetic.
Ashish, for example, lived in a broken down house, which leaked during the monsoon. He received a set of tin sheets during the gift distribution to repair his roof. “I am happy that now I can live peacefully,” he said.
This man is one of thousands of people who find relief from poverty through Believers Church’s Community Development Project.
