November 14 is celebrated as Children’s Day in India to commemorate the birth anniversary of the country’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
In celebration of Children’s Day, parishes in Believers Eastern Church Archdiocese of Siliguri organized various special programs for children. Around 1400 children took part in the programs with great enthusiasm.
While some parishes celebrated the day by cutting cakes and offering special prayers for the children, other parishes went the extra mile and distributed stationery items to the parish children. Few parishes gifted the children with ‘khada’ (traditional stole) as well.
Through motivational messages, parish priests helped the children understand that they are an important part of the church and are very special. The children were greatly blessed and encouraged by the programs and they thanked the Lord and the church families for their love and care.
“It was a special occasion to show our love to our children and we are glad that we did not miss this opportunity”, said one of the parish priests.
Ansina Rava, a Sunday school child said, “I am very happy to be part of this church and I am so glad that our Sunday school teacher brought cake for all of us. They also prayed for us and made us feel very special.”
