On 8 September 2021, on the occasion of International Literacy Day, the youth members of a local parish in Believers Eastern Church Diocese of Kathmandu took the initiative to distribute stationery items and essentials to the children at an orphanage.
The orphanage is located in Bhaktapur District, Nepal where 10 helpless orphan children are residing at present. This orphanage is being run by the contribution of well-wishers, who go there on special occasions and help them with different items.
Before the distribution of essentials, the youth leader spoke to the children and explained to the about the importance of education. Citing the examples of many educated people, he said, “Work hard and focus on your studies. If you work hard now, your future will be bright, because hard work always pays off”.
After the brief exhortation, the parish youth handed over 2 sacks of rice, fruits and stationery items such as notebooks, pens and pencils to the orphanage in-charge.
Mrs. Maya Gurung, the orphanage in-charge said, “Your sweet words, behavior, and work show that you all are so kind and helpful people. Till today, young people like you have not come to this center with help. I am so happy and thankful to you all for coming here and helping us with essential items. We were really in need of help because we are barely receiving help from others due to the Covid-19 pandemic. I would like to thank you all from the bottom of my heart.”
Suman Thapa, one of the children, said, “I thank you for coming here with help and showing brotherly love. I am really encouraged by your visit and the short message. You may not know that we barely meet people like you who encourage us and show love. I have no parents but today after meeting you all and talking to you I felt as if I was talking to my parents”.
