Believers Church Colombo Diocese conducted 15 days of medical clinics from 7th to 22nd May 2012 in Sri Lanka. Dr. Simonozo volunteered to partner with Believers Church Compassion Services during this time. She even brought medicine and specs to distribute to those in need. These clinics benefited people in rural areas who had resettled after 30 years of civil war in Sri Lanka. Special guests Rt. Rev. Narayan Sharma and Rev. Fr. Lal took part and prayed for all the participants.
Rev. Fr. Arumainayagam, worked together with the local army to make the clinics successful by providing accommodation, food and other basic needs for all receiving care at the clinic. The army distributed nutritious drinks and food to each patient.
In the area of the clinics, the people are generally poor and most are unable to buy a pair of specs or go to doctors for eye checkups. In many places, there is no electricity and people use kerosene lamps for light. During the medical camp, a total of 1,076 people were examined and 883 received specs free of cost. An eye clinic was done for school children in the area, and those who needed specs also received them.
Twelve-year-old Sudarshan had his eyes examined during this time. He lost his parents during the civil war and lives with his grandmother. Sudarshan had very poor eyesight, and this caused him many difficulties on a daily basis. After receiving eyeglasses, he said, “No one was there to take me to a doctor and buy me specs. But today, I am very happy I can see well.”
All recipients were extremely grateful for the kindness shown by Dr. Simonozo and Believers Church Compassion Services.
