Shri. Anto Antony (MP) inaugurated the second phase of the Women’s Fellowship Healthcare Training on 10th October 2016, in the presence of Dr. K.P. Yohannan, Metropolitan.
In his inaugural address, Shri. Anto Antony briefly talked about the importance of health education. He also appreciated the church for its various health initiatives and projects undertaken for the welfare of the poor and needy in the society.
Speaking on the occasion, Metropolitan shared about the church’s vision to impart health education to the people in extremely remote areas as well as educate rural women about basic hygiene and healthy habits, thus improving their quality of life. In his opinion, educating the women was more important than men, because of their larger role in the homes and social circles.
Mrs. Gisela Yohannan, Mrs. Dr. Siny Punnoose, Mrs. Jeena Praison, Fr. Praison John and Fr. Daniel Johnson also shared the dais at the inaugural function.
The second phase of the training is being attended by 126 women participants from all dioceses of the Church in India, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. The six-day seminar will cover important topics like community health and sanitation, lifestyle diseases, vector-borne diseases, breastfeeding, tuberculosis and relevant information for mothers to educate their daughters.
In the first phase of the training, which was held in January 2013, the participants were given training on personal hygiene, child care, and first aid. Following the seminar, the participants conducted health awareness classes in all the dioceses of the church, which helped nearly 5 lakh women.
Now, after the second phase of the training seminar, the participants will continue to conduct basic and advanced health education classes for women.
