Metropolitan Dr. K.P. Yohannan spoke at the Good Friday service at St. Thomas Believers Church Cathedral on 18th April. Seven meditations were given by clergy, bishops and the metropolitan on the seven sayings of Christ from the cross.
The metropolitan spoke on the last saying of Jesus before He died: “Father, into Your hands I commit my spirit.” (See Luke 23:46.) He talked about Jesus’ absolute trust in the sovereignty of the Father, from the time He began His journey, stepping away from His throne to be born as a baby, to His death on the cross.
“May we live in such a way that we too may die without fear or self-pity; to live with the end in mind,” said the metropolitan.
The service was solemn, as the believers meditated on the suffering of Christ, but ended with anticipation. “This is Friday,” said Metropolitan, “but Sunday is coming.”
Good Friday is remembered as the day which Jesus was crucified and precedes the celebration of His resurrection on Easter.
