Metropolitan Dr. K.P. Yohannan spoke at St. Thomas Believers Church Cathedral’s early morning Easter service on 20th April. The service began at 4:00 am and was lit by candles held by the congregation.
The Metropolitan described how believers in the early church met early in the morning with great anticipation on Easter to celebrate Jesus’ resurrection, which had happened at dawn.
“The rising of the sun means the Son has risen,” Metropolitan said. “It is a beautiful image of the resurrection of Christ. Night is past. There is hope.” He encouraged the congregation that there was nothing to fear in death, because Jesus conquered death through His resurrection.
The service ended as the sun began to dawn. In the church calendar, Easter is the joyous culmination of Lent, which comprises 40 days of fasting, introspection and repentance.
