Metropolitan Dr. K.P. Yohannan hoisted the flag to celebrate India’s 67th Independence Day on the morning of 15th August. He gave an inspiring message to members of the St. Thomas Nagar community including Believers Church Theological Seminary students, Sisters of Compassion in training and Believers Church staff members.
“As people of God in this amazing country…continuing the journey to freedom is our responsibility,” said the Metropolitan. “Each one of us—small or great—has a part.” He challenged the people to represent freedom, justice and kindness as responsible citizens of the nation. He also encouraged them to pray for the nation’s peace, economy and suffering people.
In the evening, the community enjoyed a cultural program.Sunday school children highlighted India’s diversity through various dances and cultural costumes. Teens from Believers Church Youth Movement presented a video they created to show their pride in being Indian. Seminary students danced and performed a skit. And a Women’s Fellowship team presented a tableau showing how Believers Church is bringing freedom to suffering women in India.
The day’s festivities were a reminder of how Believers Church works throughout year to strengthen the nation.
