While the flood situation in Kerala continues to remain grim with the death tolls still rising, the state is also facing shortage of medicines as nearly 500 medical stores in the state have been inundated completely or partially in the flood, leaving many staying in relief camps without essential medicines.
Responding to this need, on 19 August 2018, six medical teams, comprising a total of 27 doctors from Believers Church Medical College Hospital of Believers Eastern Church went to more than 10 relief camps located in and around Chengannur- one of the hardest hit areas in Kerala and provided medical assistance to more than 500 people housed in the camps.
Along with free medical checkup the medical teams also provided free medicines to people including medicines to treat skin infections, diabetes medicines and antibiotics like Doxycycline to prevent the outbreak of leptospirosis, a bacterial disease caused by wading through contaminated flooded waters.
