As in previous years, Believers Church Sikkim organized a World AIDS Day program in Tadong, Gangtok on 1st December 2010. This program was conducted under the leadership of Rev. Fr. Rocken (Vicar General).
An awareness rally was formed by Minor Seminary staff and students, Believers Church staff and local church members. The participants carried banners and placards about AIDS and distributed awareness pamphlets throughout the day.
At the conclusion of the rally, special guest Dr. Bimal Kumar, Medical Superintendent of Central Referral Hospital in Sikkim ,spoke about AIDS. He shared about the methods of AIDS transmission and the precautionary measures one should take to prevent it.
In addition, he encouraged the crowd to love AIDS patients and care for them wholeheartedly. The doctor also answered questions that people raised about AIDS.
The information shared during the event was quite helpful for the surrounding community. Awareness of disease is the first step to preventing it and creating a healthy lifestyle. Gangtok is one of many places where Believers Church holds awareness rallies in South Asia each year.
