The search and rescue operation in Wayanad, where a devastating landslide claimed the lives of more than 400 people, entered its final stages on Tuesday. Authorities are now concentrating on inaccessible areas in a bid to locate the remaining missing persons. The catastrophic landslide struck Wayanad district on July 30, causing widespread destruction and plunging many families into despair.
In response to this tragedy, Believers Eastern Church local parishes are doing what they can to offer relief and hope to those affected. Continuing their relief efforts, on August 5, 2024, they organized yet another relief supply distribution in the Mundakkai and Chooralmala camps. They provided essential supplies, including bedsheets, towels, dresses, undergarments, T-shirts, shirts, and dhotis to the survivors in these areas. Additionally, 40 food kits were distributed to the tribal families of Mundakkai and Chooralmala.
The relief distribution was spearheaded by Fr. Reji K. Thampan, Diocesan Vicar of Malabar Diocese, alongside Panchayat President Mr. Muralidharan and other priests, demonstrating the Church’s commitment to supporting and uplifting the affected communities during this difficult time.
