A Bridge of Hope center in Odisha organized its annual free medical camp for the local community on 5th January 2013. Staff announced the camp in villages and schools the previous day. The event drew 122 Bridge of Hope students, 130 Believers Church Residential School students, 70 parents and 75 other community members.
A medical team including various specialists gave checkups and prescribed medicine according to their diagnoses. One patient, Tara, was suffering with severe stomach pain. Tara received a checkup from Dr. Sutar, a gastrointestinal and laparoscopic surgeon.
“Dr. S.S. Sutar found that I am suffering from gastric problem,” said Tara. “He prescribed medicine and suggested avoiding some foods for some time.” Tara appreciated the medical attention offered through BOH.
The medical staff also raised awareness of health and hygiene precautions needed to prevent disease. Dr. H.K. Panda (Tata Krosaki Hospital) explained the importance of making healthy dietary choices. The community members also learned 20 healthy habits from Dr. T.K. Das.
One of Bridge of Hope’s main concerns is the health of its students and their communities. Each project center holds regular medical checkups and health awareness events.
