An advanced Literacy Teachers’ Training Program was conducted from 24th-25th May 2011 in Patna. One hundred twenty candidates from 10 districts of Bihar attended to learn how to teach literacy classes.
On 24th May, after the inaugural program, there was a special message given by Bishop M.A. Lalachan. Classes for the participants followed.
The organizers divided the students into groups and taught from the textbook Ek Nayi Pahal (Hindi). They also taught on different topics such as personality development, communication methods and skills for effective teaching and motivation.
For the afternoon session the participants had the privilege to hear from a guest associated with the Hindi edition of the Hindustan Times. He taught on effective communication.
On 25th May, special guest Smt. Poonam Devi (Honorable MLA) challenged the participants while speaking about education. Her speech made the participants think about committing their lives to teaching those who are illiterate.
She appreciated Believers Church and congratulated its leadership for making a deliberate choice to educate the uneducated people of Bihar through the literacy program.
In the concluding session, Bishop M.A. Lalachan delivered a dynamic message from Proverbs 23:12 “Apply your heart to instruction and your ears to words of knowledge.”
The training program was covered by the Times of India, Hindustan Times, The Telegraph and Hindustan (Hindi).
As a result of this program, many dedicated themselves to run literacy programs in their villages.
