Believers Church Kolkata Diocese organized a Global Hand Washing Day program on 15th October 2011 in Madhyamgram. Women’s Fellowship members, Diocesan staff and Minor Seminary students participated in event.
The program was conducted under the leadership of Mrs. Anuja (Women’s Fellowship leader). Bishop Dr. Juria Bardhan was also present and Dr. Debraj Mondol (reputed medical doctor) was the guest speaker. The public actively participated by learning how to wash their hands properly.
The guest speaker, Dr. Debraj, spoke on the importance and significance of hand washing. The doctor explained, “There are two types of diseases. One is waterborne and the other is airborne. Eighty percent of diseases are caused by unclean water.” Later he demonstrated how to wash hands properly to keep them clean and prevent several diseases.
The Minor Seminary in Barasat also organized a Global Hand Washing Day program, and hundreds of people from the locality participated. Bishop Dr. Juria Bardhan visited there as well and demonstrated how to properly wash your hands. Many people were encouraged by this, and even a few children with their mothers came forward to wash their hands.
Additionally, Bridge of Hope Kolkata organized hand washing programs in several local centers, reaching hundreds of individuals. The whole program proved to be motivational for the society at large.
