Believers Church Kolkata Diocese relieved poverty in four Sunderban islands from 17th-23rd November 2012. More than 354 daily laborers received gifts such as van rickshaws, bicycles, solar lamps, sewing machines and livestock.
Political leaders attended the programs such as Mr. Beddhadeb (market president) and Mr. S.K. Kundu (police station officer-in-charge) of Raidighi, Mr. Pankaj Mondal (Kantamari panchayat president) and Mr. Bankim Chandra Hazra (Sagar MLA and Sundarban Development Chairman).
The gift recipients were very grateful for the free help from Believers Church. Before, they were hardly earning 50 rupees a day. Now, they have the means to provide nutritious food and education to their children.
“I am happy that I have received a van rickshaw,” said Brajeshwar Naya. “With it I will start a business and it will help me to carry the passengers from one place to another place.”
Others were thankful for gifts such as tin roof sheets or lamps, which improve their home life.
Believers Church is developing thousands of communities by distributing income-generating gifts, providing clean water and offering hope to underprivileged children.
