On 5th March 2012, Believers Church Kolkata Diocese organized a community development program in Purulia. Rev. Fr. Soumen and Rev. Fr. Joydeb inaugurated the program.
Around 51 people from underprivileged backgrounds benefited from this event. Believers Church social workers identified this particular community for development because of the poor living conditions of its inhabitants. Families worked for daily wages and hardly earned 50 rupees per day. Children also did not have nutritious food or a chance for proper education.
Nine sewing machines, five van rickshaws, eight cows, 15 piglets and 14 goats were distributed to the needy families, enabling them to provide for themselves. Not only this, one recipient of a sewing machine, Haradhan Karmakar from Kusumda village, was already thinking about how to help others in need. He said, “Most of the time, my children wore torn clothes. But I did not have a sewing machine to repair their clothes and I did not have money to stitch new clothes. By the grace of God, I have received a sewing machine. I hope I can mend my clothing and even stitch clothes for others who face the same problem like me.”
The community was very happy to receive the gifts.
